Update - Major Emergency Standby protocol stood down at Letterkenny University Hospital

Sad news tonight as Gardaí have confirmed at least 3 people have died in todays explosion in Creeslough Donegal.

Letterkenny University Hospital has confirmed that its Emergency Standby protocol has been stood down tonight.

The hospital have said that the continue to treat those who were injured in the explosion to day which occurred around 3pm which happened at the Applegreen service station in Creeslough, Co Donegal.

The hospital continues to appeal to the public not to come to the Emergency Department unless it is an emergency.

Please contact your GP or out of hours service in the first instance. NowDoc has increased staffing tonight to help deal with any additional demands.

Staff in the hospital remain "on hand to provide all necessary medical assistance required," according to a statement issued tonight.

In a statement, gardaí said they are "assisting other emergency services at the scene of a serious incident".

Roads to the village have been sealed off as emergency services respond to the incident.



A number of people remain "trapped" at the scene of an explosion at a service station in Creeslough, Co Donegal, according to a local TD.

Others are being treated in hospital following the explosion which Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty described as a "worst nightmare".

He added that some people inside the building have managed to make contact with others outside.

Emergency services are still at the scene and crews will work through the night to clear the rubble.
