A rare tropical night was recorded in Ireland last night

Last night Ireland recorded its 3rd tropical night in 22 years

Last night was provisionally the 3rd tropical night in Ireland for 22 years and the first since 22nd and 23rd of July 2021, with Valentia in #Kerry not observing any temperature under 22.3°C

Tropical nights (shaded air above 20°C all night) are rare in Ireland having only occurred around 7 times in the digital record.

A tropical night is a term used in Ireland aswell as some other European countries to describe days when the temperature does not fall under 20 °C during the night time.This definition is in use in many European countries including the United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Latvia and Croatia.


The weather is set to remain warm over the rest of this week and into the weekend with temperatures in the low to mid 20s with sunshine at times.

During the end of the weekend especially from Thursday into the weekend there will be a risk of some thunderstorms in places.
