Government has decided to cancel all St Patrick's Day parades on the advice of health officials

The Letterkenny St Patrick's Day Parade in County Donegal has been cancelled.

Organised by the local Chamber of Commerce, the decision to cancel was taken in "the interests of the health and well-being of the community."

Buncrana in Co Donegal has become the latest town to cancel its St Patrick's Day parade, amid fears of spreading the coronavirus.

Ballyshannon in Co Donegal has also cancelled its St Patrick's Day parade due to the coronavirus.

Bundoran has also cancelled its St Patrick's Day parade which attracts thousands of people both the south and north of Ireland.

Ballybofey in Donegal has also cancelled its St Patrick's Day parade.

Further parades are due to be cancelled over the coming hours with parades nationwide now looking likely to be cancelled.

The Government has decided to cancel all St Patrick's Day parades on the advice of health officials, according to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. 

It comes as the Government endeavours to slow the spread of the coronavirus in Ireland.
