A Atlantic low pressure system will move close to the west and northwest of Ireland this morning and over the afternoon with severe winds gust for Atlantic coastal counties.

The low pressure system will clear northwards over Scotland later in the afternoon and evening with winds easing a little but it will remain rather gusty tonight across western and north counties.

There currently is a Orange wind warning in places for Donegal, Mayo and Galway where the strongest winds will be especially across coastal areas there but coastal areas of Kerry and Clare also see some severe gust this morning as that low passes to the west.

Less severe winds are expected across the rest of Ireland but it will still be rather windy with strong south to southwest winds for may with a nationwide yellow warning in place.

Across Atlantic coastal areas winds will generally gust between 90km/hr to 110km/hr but some parts especially along the coasts seen gusts in excess of that of around 120km/hr which is why that orange warnings is in places.

Elsewhere winds will gust between 80km/hr to 90km/hr with some areas around the coasts see gust of 110km/hr.

With the strong winds there will also be the added risk of coastal flooding in places especially were winds are onshore which is when winds blow in from the sea.

Areas most at risk of coastal flooding will be Kerry, Clare, Galway, Mayo and Donegal with the southwest to south winds giving some coastal flooding and dangerous conditions at sea in these counites

A Marine warning is also in place - Status Orange - Gale Warning - Southerly winds will reach gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 today (Sunday) on all Irish coastal waters and on the Irish Sea, occasionally reaching storm force 10 from Mizen Head to Slyne Head to Malin Head.

Some minor power outages will also be possible especially across Atlantic coastal counites
