BALLYSHANNON TO LOSE ITS FIRE STATION AFTER 65 YEARS IN SERVICE

Ballyshannon Co.Donegal is set to lose its fire station and Engine after 65 years in service. The recommendation was made today to move the service to Bundoran Co.Donegal.

Ballyshannon is a town that has suffered massively over the years due to the recession and to lose this service is a major blow and a big loss to the people living on the Ballyshannon side of Finner, Rossnowlagh, Cashelard, Ballintra and surrounding areas.

This would also impact the Donegal town fire service putting the fire service under more stress.

The members of the Ballyshannon unit will still be working as firefighters in the community but will not be able to serve the people of Ballyshannon and surrounding areas in the same capacity as the currently can now if this was to happen.

Rossnowlagh is one area that is now at serious risk at this loss if the firs station is shut.

The recommendation was made by chief fire officer Joseph McTaggart.
