LISFANNON BEACH

BEACH

Lisfannon is a sandy beach located on the bay of Lough Swilly, near the village of Fahan. It forms part of a Natural Heritage Area, which is an important wetland home for many species of water birds.

The beach has Blue Flag status and is popular with bathers. It is located well within the lough, so is protected from the stronger sea currents to be found elsewhere along the coast. There is a lifeguard service on the beach from the months of June until September.

Lisfannon is also a popular beach for walking with excellent views over Lough Swilly, Inch Island, and Rathmullan across the lough. There is plenty of flora and fauna to see in amongst the sand dunes that back the beach; of particular interest are the many bird species to be found here.

To the north of the beach visitors will find the North West Golf Club and the small village of Lisfannon. To the south, the village of Fahan overlooks the lough and provides services such as shops, places to eat and places to stay.

Lough Swilly Marina is also located at the southern end of the beach.
There is a car park at the northern end of the beach, which also has toilets. The beach is accessed through the sand dunes.
