AURORA WATCH & ALERTS -IRELAND

Update 9TH MAY 2023

3 DAY AURORA FORECAST

G2 (MODERATE) WATCH 10 MAY & G1 (MINOR) WATCH 11 MAY

Geomagnetic storms watches have been raised for 10 and 11 May with a CME that is forecast to arrive on 10 May. This CME was associated with an M1 flare from Region 2996 that peaked on 07 May at 2323 UTC and was observed as a partial halo in coronagraph imagery from NASA's SOHO satellite, moving around 900 km/s. G2 (Moderate) storm levels are likely on 10 May with the arrival of a shock. G1 (Minor) storm levels are then likely through 11 May with subsequent passage of the magnetic cloud.

Further strong solar flares have occurred tonight Tuesday 9th of May with the high chance of further CMEs heading towards earth leading to further aurora displays later this week and this weekend.
