Turning windy overnight with the risk of wintry falls in places.

Some heavy showers have been affecting Ireland today with some of them wintry with falls of sleet and hail. As the evening goes on and temperature dip to around 0C in some areas this showers will turn increasingly wintry across the Northwest of Ireland with some falling as snow but any snow will mainly be over high ground with a mixture of rain, sleet and hail over lower ground.

Some higher roads and mountain roads could see temporary snow accumulations overnight into Tuesday morning with the risk of icy conditions.

A area of low pressure will pass of to the north of Ireland overnight with a strong winfield to the southern flank of the low. Overnight. Northwest winds will increase across the northwest and North of Ireland with mean speeds of 50 to 60 km/h and gusts of 90 to 100 km/h. Strongest near coasts.

Winds will ease later Tuesday morning with showers dying out to give way to bright and sunny spells over the afternoon and evening. Tuesday night will turn very cold and dry with a widespread sharp to severe ground frost developing with the risk of some icy patches with lows of -2C to 1C.
