Windy again later Wednesday and Thursday with a possible named storm

A developing low pressure system is expected to bring further strong winds to Ireland Wednesday evening, night and Thursday morning but the good news is that the low pressure system at present does not look as deep as it was showing on models over the weekend where it was showing very high impact winds. Some strong winds will still be possible especially across western and southern counites where some winds may gust as high as 120km/hr with a Orange level wind warning possible for some counites most likely Clare, Kerry, Cork & Waterford and depending if the low tracks a little further north then also Galway and Mayo.

A early wind warning has been issued by Met Eireann ahead of this system which may see all areas come under a yellow wind warning along with a orange warning issued for some of the counites mentioned above. It may also be named as early as Tuesday. The next named storm will be called Storm Evert.

Status Yellow - Wind warning for Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Wexford

Met Éireann Weather Warning

Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night, southwest to west winds will reach mean wind speeds of 50 to 65 km/h, with gusts ranging 80 to 110km/h, higher in exposed locations.

Turning colder later in the week with some wintry falls of hail, sleet and snow

As the low pressure system clears to the east on Thursday much colder air will move in behind it with a very showery set up also expected. The air mass is a polar Maritime air mass which will give wintry falls to places with mostly rain, hail and sleet to lower level but some snow also look on the cards later next week over high ground areas as the below image shows. Purple indications wintry falls of hail, sleet and snow. Some thunderstorms activity also looks possible.

Saturday is looking like a very cold day for the time of year with heavy wintry showers of sleet, hail and snow looking possible possibly even giving a dusting in places for a time over the weekend

Turning milder and drier next week again

The longer range forecast then indicates high pressure will build again after next week with a return to much drier conditions and also warmer and sunnier weather bringing back the spring like weather.
