DONEGAL POSTMAN MICHAEL GALLAGHER CHRISTMAS WEATHER PREDICTION 2018

The famous Donegal postman has made his weather prediction for this Christmas.

Michael Gallagher, who has been predicting the weather for over 30 years by studying the behavior of plants and animals

Michael says "There'll be no white Christmas ," he said. "Overall, the winter won't be too bad after all.

"There'll be cold snaps, on and off, but overall I'd be happy enough with it."

Michael added that January will be an "interesting" month, weather -wise.

"January is one to watch," he said. "I'll be keeping an eye on it."

Having worked as a postman in the Bluestack Mountains for decades, he picked up tips for forecasting the weather from the older generation.

"The information was given to me by people who are no longer with us," he said.

Looking ahead into the new year some long range forecasting models are hinting at colder weather than a average for around January and February with the possible chance that a SSW sudden stratospheric warming will take place at the end of this month into January, This can increase the risk of westerly winds weakening and a easterly flow developing which would be a cold source of air for the time of year. But this would depend on the kind of SSW we have and its placement.
