Storm Kathleen - Severe winds, Damaging gusts & Coastal flooding set to hit Saturday

Weather Warnings are now in place for the whole island ahead of Ireland ahead of storm Kathleen which will bring strong winds to the whole country from Saturday morning lasting into Sunday morning for some areas.

Status Orange wind warnings are place for Cork, Kerry & Waterford between 7am and 2pm Saturday.

Status Orange warning in place for Galway & Mayo between 9am & 6pm Saturday.

The rest of the Republic of Ireland is under a status yellow warning from 5am to 8pm Saturday

For Northern Ireland the Met Office UK have issued a Status Yellow Wind warning also coming into place between 8am and 10pm Saturday

Rainfall

A band of heavier rain moving northwards this evening, tonight into Saturday morning bringing the risk of flooding.

Some heavy thundery showers then possible again on Saturday afternoon and evening especially in the west and northwest close to the center of the low pressure as it moves north.

Winds

The strongest winds look set to hit Saturday especially later into morning, during the afternoon before the ease a little just as we head into Saturday night. Winds will be strong throughout much of the country with power outages and falling debris possibl.

Gusts of up to 120km/hrs possible in some coastal parts of the south, southwest, west and northwest. Elsewhere gusts of between 70km/hr to 110km/hr

This storm will pick up again across the Ulster and across north & west Connacht later Sunday morning and over the afternoon with further strong wind possible as it makes a more west to northeast push over Scotland so further warnings will be possible for the.

Coastal flooding

With the combination of strong winds, high waves, a storm surge and tidal predictions, highest astronomical tides are forecast to approach or exceed some areas including below Dundalk Bay, Drogheda, Dublin bay, Arklow Bay, Wicklow Bay, Wexford bay, Suir estuary /Waterford, Cork Harbour, Bantry Bay, Dingle Bay, Shannon Estuary, Galway Bay, Clew Bay, Round stone, Killala, Sligo, Donegal and Lough Swilly.

Met Eireann are forecasting storm surge levels to significantly increase in the above areas on Saturday morning.

The public are advised to stay away from coastal areas and stay high and dry.
